Catherine St. Denis (she/her) is a queer, disabled writer who lives on the unceded territories of the Lekwungen peoples in Victoria, BC, Canada. She wrote her first poem at age five:
Flowers, flowers, growing in the sun.
I will kiss you, you will grow.
I will water you, you will grow.
As an adolescent, Catherine was lucky to live in Saskatoon, where programs for budding young writers were offered through the Saskatoon Public Library by annual writers in residence. Her experiences in these programs inspired her to pursue writing at the university level and she subsequently obtained her BFA in Writing from the University of Victoria.
After a hiatus of fifteen years working as an educator and mother, Catherine has recently returned to writing and her work has been published in an array of quarterlies and won a number of awards. Catherine is currently an MFA candidate at the University of British Columbia and her first poetry collection is forthcoming in the spring of 2027 with Nightwood Editions.
