Having just started building this website, I’m taking stock of all the writing milestones that have happened for me in the past few years. A fairly major one came a few years ago when I had my first poem published. (Okay, I did have poetry published as a teenager in the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild youth magazine, Windscript, where I received an Honourable Mention for best poem, but that was a few years back!) My piece “Prairie Poem” had previously been shortlisted for The Fiddlehead‘s poetry contest. I sent it out to the League of Canadian Poets for consideration for their chapbook You are a Flower Growing off the Side of a Cliff and was subsequently informed that it was selected. The League’s Administrative Director, Nic Brewer, literally sews these chapbooks together by hand, so it was quite an honour to receive my copies in the mail. Want a copy? You can order one here.
